“The Silent Struggle: Intersectionality and Students of Color” (SSAIS intern in WMC)

Dear Advisors and allies,

Today, the WMC Fbomb published “The Silent Struggle: Intersectionality and Students of Color,” by SSAIS intern Eunice Hong.

Eunice describes her experience holding multiple identities that includes homophobia, racism, stigma within one’s own ethnic group, and sex discrimination.  As an international student from China, she wants young people to avoid the trauma she experienced by understanding intersectionality through relatable examples–like school dress codes, which target LGBTQ students, students of color, and girls.  She makes special reference to SASH Club (Students Against Sexual Harassment) resources, three of which were created by the National Women’s Law Center for the SASH Club website here:

·      Sexual Harassment and Students of Color

·      Can Dress Codes Harm Students

·      How to Reform or Abolish School Dress Codes

We encourage you to share these resources and collaborate to extend their reach.

Many thanks for your interest,
